The Benefits of an All-in-One Moisture Meter

Pros and Cons of all in one moisture metersDepending on what project you are working on, moisture detection may require only one specific type of moisture testing device such as a:

  • pin-type moisture meter
  • pinless moisture meter
  • thermo-hygrometer

But, what if the project you are working on had a variety of surface or material types and would be completed more efficiently and effectively with the use of both pin and pinless or pin meters, or pin, pinless and thermo-hygrometer meters?

Having an all-in-one moisture meter allows for more tool box space, speed, accuracy and utility.

Both pin-type and pinless moisture meters have their individual benefits; pin meters are more precise, and pinless meters scan larger, areas faster. If the project requires both functions of a pin and a pinless moisture meter, then an all-in-one moisture meter may be more ideal.

The Benefits of Using an All-in-One Moisture Meter

Below are just a few benefits of using an all-in-one moisture meter:

  • More tool box space

Since an all-in-one moisture meter combines all of the functions of pin moisture meters, pinless meters and thermo-hygrometers, having an all-in-one meter frees up some space in your tool box; instead of having to carry three separate tools, you can simply carry around one tool that satisfies the needed functions of all three moisture testing device types.

  • More speed and accuracy to pinpoint moisture pockets

Instead of having to switch between a pin-type meter, a pinless meter and a thermo-hygrometer, all-in-one moisture meters allow you to have all three devices at your disposal. This enables you to use the pinless scanning mode to take multiple readings of a large area to find a moisture pocket, and then easily transition to using the meter’s pins to find the exact location and depth of that moisture pocket.

  • More utility

Using an all-in-one meter prepares you for a larger variety of tasks such as scanning moisture content in both flat surfaces and grooved or textured materials. For accurate readings, both would be done by two different meter types; whereas the all-in-one meter allows for more utility on the job.

Moisture Meter Technology

All-in-one moisture meters do have some limitations. Because they normally combine more features than a single-function meter, all-in-one meters may be rquire a higher learning curve for new users to become comfortable with the meter.

Below are a few features of some Delmhorst’s all-in-one moisture meters:

TotalCheck is a three in one moisture meter that allows you to store readings and download them to a spreadsheet.

Pin Mode:

  • 5%-60% wood scale.
  • Corrects for 69 individual wood species and temperature.
  • 0-100 numerical reference scale for non-wood building materials.

Scan Mode:

  • 0-300 numerical reference scale

QuickNav is an easy to use three in one moisture meter without storage or download capabilities. It offers all the versatility of a 3-in-1 moisture meter.

Pin Mode:

  • Pin penetration depth of 5/16”
  • Scan depth of ¾”
  • Correction scales for wood and drywall
  • Moisture range of 6-60% on wood and 0.1-6% on drywall

Scan Mode:

  • Range of 0-300 numerical reference scale
  • RH/T Range of 0-100% RH

TechCheck PLUS is a two in one meter.

Pin Mode:

  • 0 .1% - 6% dry wall scale
  • 6% - 60% MC wood scale

Scan Mode:

  • Spanish language option
  • Built in back-light
  • Auto shut off
  • Audible, adjustable alarm that alerts you when your pre-selected MC has been reached.

Making the Right Moisture Meter Choice

Choosing an all-in-one moisture meter is dependent on the project you are using the meter for. Delmhorst offers pin-type meters, pinless meters, thermo-hygrometers and various types of all-in-one moisture meters that are designed to handle a variety of project types.
